Incorrect FM behaviour?

Post by smoorby » Tue Jun 28, 2016 10:50 am

I've just got a Prophet 12 and it sure is beautiful :-)

Just getting beyond patch exploration and started with FM with some dubious results. Starting with the basic voice I switch the Osc 1 waveform to sine. I also switch the Osc 2 waveform to sine but leave the output level at 0. I then increase the FM on Osc 1. I hear the spectrum change as the FM amount increases but it soon becomes non harmonic. Both Osc 1 and Osc 2 pitches are at C2 with fine pitch set to 0. For this simple single carrier/modulator pair I'd expect modulation to produce only harmonics.

Did you have the fm mode set to linear or exponential , also was there any wave shape amount? What about character section, feedback, drive ...
