SID Sound on Prophet 12

Post by Thysix » Tue Feb 02, 2016 9:42 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering whether any of you have are tried to create some SID-type sounds on the P12. I'm into 80's (Nu-)Synthwave and would like to try to add some Commodore 64 grit, but where to start, where to start..

So.. any directions on how to put those squares in a time machine?

I am not a 8bit specialist at all... but I guess, from my videogame past, that these are some things you should try:

- Use the Bit reducer function in the character section to achieve true 8bit grit.
- Use a lot of square waves with semi-fast lfo's affecting the pitch
- Add a bit of drive to get even more grit
- Maybe use FM to get special effects, swooshes and general percussion weirdness.

Anyone else has better ideas?

Thanks... :) The grit has turned out to be the easy part with the bit reducer and some feedback.

Tonight I tried to use a fast LFO on the LPF to get multiple squares through gating. The next step would be to modulate the pitch to get those characteristic 3- or 4-note bursts, either using the arp or LFO's I suppose.

FM is complete new territory for me, but I will sure try to find out how to get some percussion and fx out of it.

There's a patch called "8 bit pal" typical Amstrad CPC and Atari ST soundschip tunes.
